Occlusion treatment in children.

In most cases, the ideal age for orthodontic treatment is from 10 to 12 years. The child grows actively during this period, and medical intervention is the most effective, leading to fast and favorable results. However, in some situations, such as narrowing of dental arches, significant outrunning growth of one of the jaws, etc., active orthodontic care is required immediately, as soon as the problem is detected. Sometimes, early normalization of bite in children eliminates the need for continuing treatment in adolescence completely or affects the duration and the scope of the intervention.

That is, orthodontic treatment can be avoided entirely or make the process of brace wearing as smooth as possible. Orthodontic treatment in children can be held without using any devices, e.g., doing myogymnastics (exercises for muscle function normalization), massaging teeth during the eruption to correct their growth direction, creating space in the dental arch due to the separation of primary (baby) teeth or sequential extraction; regrinding the tubercules of primary teeth (to eliminate mutual jaw block). All of the abovementioned methods are preventive measures used to partially normalize the pathology before using instrumental treatment.

Sometimes adequate intervention creates necessary conditions for the normal dentition and jaw development of a little patient. We recommend the use of functional appliances with children at an early age (4 to 7 years). Their operation principle is based on the normalization of the muscle functions, stimulation or inhibition of growth in certain areas of the jaws. The appliance will work efficiently only when the patient's jaws and lips join tightly. The earlier the patient's parents visit an orthodontic dentist, the more troubles could be avoided in the child's treatment. Even teeth without braces should be the aim of little patients and their parents!

Baby teeth treatment.

Children's tooth decay differs from that of adults. Milk teeth have very thin enamel, especially in the areas between the teeth and at the gum margins, bacteria from plaque can easily get to the dentin. Dentin is the main tooth tissue. It is much softer than enamel and is destroyed more rapidly, so decayed baby teeth do not look so bad for the time being.
